Export Ribbon, Toolbar, Template, and Macro Settings for Office Apps

Some of our users spend considerable time customizing Outlook, Word, and Excel. These adjustments do not migrate with your Office account to a new device, though. Follow these steps to save your customizations.

Quick Access Toolbar and Ribbon

  1. To export your Quick Access Toolbar settings, please navigate to File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar > Import/Export > Export all customizations

  2. To transfer the Ribbon settings, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Import/Export > Export all customizations

  3. Save the file to Box

  4. When you are ready to import, navigate back to the same location and choose Import customization file

  5. Make sure to select the correct file for the application

  6. Your settings should be restored on your new device
  7. Go through this process for each Office application that you have customized

Macros

  1. Enter the following path in the address bar of Windows Explorer
    1. C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\[Application Name]\XLStart
      1. Replace bolded brackets and wording with necessary info
      2. Enter Word or Excel for the application name
  2. Save all files in this folder to Box
  3. To import on your new device, copy and paste these files from Box to the same location on your new device.
    1. You may need to create the XLStart folder first
  4. You should now have access to your macros from that application
  5. Go through the same process for other app as needed

Templates

  1. Enter the following path in the address bar of Windows Explorer
    1. %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\
  2. Save all files in this folder to Box
  3. To import on your new device, copy and paste these files from Box to the same location on your new device.
  4. You should now have access to your templates from that application

Navigation Pane

  1. To transfer your Outlook Navigation pane, enter the following path in the address bar of Windows Explorer
    1. C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\
  2. Save the .xml file to Box

  3. To import on your new device, copy and paste this file from Box to the same location on your new device

  4. Your side menu settings should now be restored
